Rome=Roma

Today I am going to the I Castelli Animati International Animation Festival in Rome, among other things there is an exhibition of my drawings , a collection called: "Animated Kafka". It will be shown at the famous Cinecittá Studios, where Fellini shot "Intervista", a film about the studios and his attempts to shoot Kafka's "America". Wonderful coincidence.

If you "need" to see my daily drawings, please, visit www.okgrillo.blogspot.com . Ruben Gonzalez, "The Editor", has a collection of fresh pictures to post until Monday.
See you next week

Rembrandt

I feel deeply honoured because a museum in Ohio is going to have an exhibition of Rembrandt self-portraits and they asked me for this illustration I drew a few years ago for the catalogue.

Estoy prfundamente orgulloso porque de un museo en Ohio me pidieron permiso para usar esta ilustracion en el catalogo de la muestra.

Mistress class in "how to remove a girdle"

Joanna draws. She drew all the time. I would kill for that sketch book.

Wonderful Joanna Quinn was a great presence at the festival. Showed her latest film "Family Ties" that I loved! She gave a tremendous mistress class teaching her techniques that would be useless to us who don't posses her uncanny drawing skills.

Alexander Petrov

The Master Alexander Petrov showed his works and gave a fabulous masterclass on glass painting animation. It was wonderful to see this great artist in action. It was very seductive to see the picture appearing under his fingers.

Exhibition in Cordoba

Animacor Picture Show

There was a show of pictures I drew specially for the festival on the theme of "Drawing The Sailor - Variations and homages around a famous character"
The show was held in
this fabulous Baroque building, the Palace of the Diputacion.

Two views of the banner announcing the show.

More Animacor

We have been treated marvellously well by everybody at the festival. I dont have enough room to name everyone but I will mention some remarkable individuals. The man with the beard is Antonio Zurera, terrific artist, director of the festival and nice guy all round. The young lady without the beard is Carmen Ridaura, coordinator extraordinaire and magnificent organizer.
My thanks to them.

The usual suspects. Please note that the one with the cap has TWO glasses of booze in his hands.

Driving a bubble car with the hand brakes on (YES!) and guiding us around old Cordoba is the delectable Maria Marchessi. Great gal, brilliant cicerone and mother hen.

Animacor 07

Last week I was in Cordoba, Spain, as a juror for Animacor 2007, the
international animation festival. It was a wonderful occasion, with beautiful films, fabulous food, sensational people, in the most gorgeous of cities. We were treated marvellously well. I''ll talk about our hosts on my next posting. I am not a great writer and not very willing to spend much time doing so, but I want to share these photos that will give you a faint idea of what was all about. In this first posting I invite you to see the members of the jury. They were Joanna Quinn, Pilar Ortega, Pedro Delgado, Carlos Varela and myself. These misguided people nominated me president of the jury.

Carlos Varela and me but I think we may be "Bouvard & Pecuchet"

Joanna Quinn laughing politely at some inanity I must have said to her.

This photo was taken by the waiter at the moment of our deliberations. The two onlookers, in pink and green, are Maria Marchessi, our guide and mother hen, and darling Patricia Grillo, who was in for the ride.

Pedro Delgado has a disagreement with Joanna.

Here is a selection of photos of the jurors hard at work. We were quite pleased with our choice of winners. The first prize, for the best short, went to the outstanding Madame Tutli Putli, possibly one of the best animated films I have seen in years. For the rest of the winners please visit:
