I've just seen Mel Gibson's "Apocalypto" and I thought it was a magnificent film.
Here is an illustration I drew in 2005 for some stories by the Uruguayan Eduardo Galeano with a similar theme.

I agree - very entertaining even with some extremely silly action sequences.
ReplyDeleteHah! Your drawing is exactly the ending of the movie! I was disappointed with the digital photography but the scenes in the Mayan city are outstanding, like some alien planet. The sick & diseased population indicating the civilisation rotting from within. They were on the edge of collapse just as the Spanish arrived to finish them off!

That seems to explain what readers of the Daily Mail feel reading it.
